The long trip back to the UK – Day 1

Just as we have got settled down in southern Spain disaster strikes again but this time its with family back in the UK.  On new years day we receive the bad news that Ann’s father has has a stroke and is in hospital.

Having spoke to the hospital staff the following day as to its severity it was decided we will travel back to the UK as its very likely he is going to need some help and support so we get everything packed up ready to leave first thing in the morning.

Having programmed the Sat Nav for dover via the Tunnel it tells me its over 2,000 km and will take in excess of 30 hours (won’t be doing that in one go then).  The plan is to drive till about 4pm and then search out a stop over or camp site for the night.

We leave a little later than planned with a full tank of water, empty waste tank and loo and head in the opposite direction so we can top up the LPG and might as well top up the diesel as well.

IMG_1738We stopped along the way at a Cafe/Bar for Bacon, Egg and Chips (well turned out as fried potatoes but never mind) plus 2 cups of coffee each for a mere 20 Euros, the price of one cup of coffee in a UK motorway service station. I love Spain.

After 5 hours of driving and 248 Miles we find a secure parking place at Parador de los Galanes, Mazanares where we paid 5 Euros to park for the night among the Lorries in a nice secure compound.

Going to get to bed nice and early tonight as want to get going at first light and make up some of the time we spent faffing about.
